Hi, I’m Ted. Or Teddy, if you prefer a hug to a handshake.
Former SEC attorney. Founder since 2014. I invest in frontier companies, and I build things in Austin: an agentic energy company, a padel club, a pro pickleball team, and a family of four.
I started my career in the U.S. Senate in 2009 and spent a year as a political consultant before law school. During law school I was a judicial intern at the D.C. Court of Appeals, the District’s highest court. After graduating I joined the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance, where most of my work was IPOs and public company filings.
It was a front-row seat to how the best companies operate, but I found myself wanting to sit on the other side of the table building things. So I took the leap and started Apollo Scheduling with one of my mentors. It reached an eight-figure valuation inside eighteen months. Then came AMMA, which Danielle and I co-founded and sold in 2021. Today, DecentraNet is how I put capital, operating experience, and legal know-how behind the founders shaping the future I want my kids to live in. Instead of regulating companies going public, I rang the Nasdaq bell myself. (Twice!)
For a while I also hosted The Leap Takers, a podcast telling the stories of people who left great corporate careers to pursue their dreams, and how the shift in identity is often the hardest part.
A mentor gave me my shot, so I make time to return the favor. I mentor at Techstars and Founder Institute and have sat on more than fifteen advisory boards.
“I’m not showing off. I’m showing what’s possible.”
My mission is showing people their own power by modeling what it looks like to believe in yourself. I jump into new things and figure them out as I go. Call it reverse imposter syndrome.
Every bet I make comes back to one question: will this technology help build a better future for humanity? Since 2017, that’s meant backing in-space logistics, synthetic biology, psychedelic medicine, energy, organ preservation, the protocols underneath digital assets, and neuro-cognitive enhancement.

I co-founded the Texas Ranchers and structured the deal, and together we assembled an ownership group across sport, music, and technology. The people who came in were backing us before they were backing pickleball, and that trust is what I’m proudest of. We’re redefining what pro sports ownership looks like, and using the franchise as a vehicle for societal change. Some of the people who bet on us:
Plus many more. Meet the full group at ranchers.com, or follow along @rancherspickleball.
I’m a co-owner of Padel Society, and was a founding advisor, raising most of our early capital. Coaching, cold plunges, a great community, and the nicest courts in Texas. Helping build the things I want remains my best investment thesis.
Play with me at Padel Society →Every great adventure I’ve had, Danielle was either right beside me or three steps ahead.
My name is on this site, but everything on it is possible because of her.
D.C. Superior Court clerk. Corporate litigator. She successfully defended a client against a $6 billion judgment. Then she walked away from it, put on a backpack, and crossed six continents and fourteen countries asking what a truly fulfilling life looks like.
That journey became Atlas of Being: From Briefcase to Backpack, an Amazon #1 New Release and winner of the Living Now Book Award. It also became a TEDx talk on turning the unknown from an enemy into an ally, and a coaching practice guiding founders and executives toward work and lives that matter. She’s now deep into her second book.
From a crater lake in Ecuador to the glacier valleys of New Zealand to the cliff paths above Amalfi, she blazes every trail.
And wherever we land, she finds the best coffee in town within an hour, every time. No apps, no guidebooks. I’ve stopped questioning it. I just follow her.
Visit daniellesunberg.com →I’ve learned more about how to explain a hard idea from my kids than from any boardroom. The travel, the courts, the cap tables all come second. My family is the greatest thing I’ve built.
I hardly ever miss a family dinner or a bedtime story.
Founders, allocators, padel partners, and people with a strange idea about the future. All welcome. I answer my own email.
